TUCSON, APRIL 18, 2008 – Sahuaro High School senior Kenny Woods won The Art Institute of Tucson’s Best Teen Chef Local Cook-Off Competition held April 12. The Tucson competition was conducted by The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Tucson, which opened this month at 5099 E. Grant Road.

High school seniors and budding chefs from across the U.S. and Canada competed in Best Teen Chef Local Cook-off Competitions at participating The International Culinary School at The Art Institute locations, including The Art Institute of Tucson.

Woods received a $3,000 tuition scholarship to attend The Art Institute of Tucson, and will move on to the Best Teen Chef Final Round Competition on Saturday, May 17 at The Art Institute of Las Vegas, where he will compete against 30 other Local Cook-off Competition winners from across the country.

“Every year, we see the popularity of this Competition grow among high school age teens. They’re watching their favorite chefs on television, and saying to themselves, ‘I can do that,’” said Chef Bill Sy, Academic Director of Culinary Arts at The Art Institute of Tucson.

Top prize winners in the Competition can win a full-tuition scholarship toward an associate's degree, certificate or diploma program, to study Culinary Arts at one of the more than 30 participating Art Institutes locations, including The Art Institute of Tucson.

In addition to a full-tuition scholarship and the title of Best Teen Chef 2008, the first place winner in the national competition, in partnership with Food Network, will be an "Intern for a Day" at the Food Network Kitchens in New York City. The winner will also receive a tour of the Food Network Studios, dinner for two at a Food Network chef's restaurant and a library of Food Network Kitchens cookbooks.

Competitors at the Local Cook-off Competition prepared a menu of Shrimp Cocktail, Sautéed Breast of Chicken, Fresh Broccoli, and Rice Pilaf.
