4/18/2008

Tucson, AZ (April 18, 2008) – High school students (16 and older) will have an opportunity to explore a future in design, media arts or culinary arts at the Summer Studio 2008 at The Art Institute of Tucson, June 15 to 18.

This preview of the school’s career-oriented programs enables high school students to work with industry professionals as part of a production team that will create the design, media, and culinary aspects of a successful promotional campaign. The workshops will be held at The Art Institute of Tucson, located at 5099 E. Grant Road. Out of town students will be housed at the Sheraton Tucson Hotel, across the street from the school at 5151 E. Grant Road.

Participants can select workshops in advertising, baking and pastry, culinary arts, fashion design, graphic design, interior design, media arts and animation and web design & interactive media.

“This is a rare opportunity for teens to experience first hand the many aspects of creative careers. In addition to having a great time, the teens will leave with a portfolio of their work,” said Karen Habblitz, president of The Art Institute of Tucson.

For fashion design students, participation in the Summer Studio includes instruction in submitting designs to The Art Institutes Passion for Fashion competition.

Students must complete an application online at http://www.summerstudio2008.com/tucson or submit a letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, current or past employer, counselor or principal. Acceptance into the Summer Studio is based on career goals, creative talents, performance in high school classes and maturity level. Tuition is $175. Tuition with housing is $325.
